PEMBROKE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 61-year-old Arkansas woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle pulling into a truck stop off the Thruway in western New York.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office tells local media that Carolyn Baltzell of Hot Springs was walking through the parking lot at the Flying J Travel Plaza shortly after noon Sunday when she was hit by a box truck and run over near the fuel pumps at the business, located off Interstate 90 in Pembroke, 25 miles east of Buffalo.

Deputies say she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say Baltzell and her husband had just left the truck stop’s restaurant and were walking to their tractor-trailer when the accident occurred.

No charges have been filed against the 56-year-old Canadian man who was driving the box truck.

The investigation is continuing.
