Nikki Haley says Nord Stream sabotage is ‘something that Putin would do’

Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley threw her weight behind the notion that Russia was responsible for the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline last week.

Haley speculated that Russian President Vladimir Putin was behind the attack on the Nord Stream II pipeline during a segment of Fox & Friends Monday and that the incident was meant to deflect attention from Russia not providing energy to Europe.

“I think he did. It’s totally something that Putin would do,” Haley told the panel. “Then go blame it on someone else. He wanted to do it because it took out the reason why he did not allow energy to go to Europe.”

Haley added that removing Putin from power would be difficult, even if he is behind the attack, so it is crucial that NATO and the United States continue to give Ukraine what it needs to defeat Russia.

“He’s always been paranoid. So [removing him from power] is going to be a hard thing,” Haley said. “He’s dangerous. You can’t imply that he’s not. He’s dangerous, but he knows he’s falling. And he’s got to figure this out quick. The key is NATO and the United States need to continue to support Ukraine because they’re almost there. They just have to keep supporting them, not in blank checks, but give them the anti-drone equipment, give them what they need to finish the deal, because this will set the tone not only for Russia but China. And that’s key.”

Despite the allegations that Russia was responsible for the blasts, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on President Joe Biden to answer if the U.S. was responsible last week.

“U.S. President Joe Biden must answer the question of whether the United States carried out its threat on September 25 and 26 when an emergency was reported at three lines of Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, which has been preliminarily recognized as ruptures, whereas he suggested those were blown up,” she said, according to Russian state news agency TASS.

The U.S. has since denied any responsibility for the incident.
