‘More than a phone call’: Chris Wallace calls Trump efforts in Ukraine a ‘coordinated campaign’

Fox News host Chris Wallace took aim at an argument made by President Trump and his allies that the transcript from the call he made with Ukraine’s president exonerated him from any wrong doing.

“It was a lot more than a phone call. It was a coordinated campaign,” the anchor said Thursday. “What you’ve heard from Bill Taylor and Fiona Hill and Col. Vindman and a bunch of others is that this was a coordinated campaign by people outside the regular diplomatic channels at the State Department to put pressure on Ukraine to do certain things.”

“It didn’t begin and it didn’t end with a phone call,” Wallace added.

The comments by the Fox News host came the same day as House Democrats voted to move forward with impeachment proceedings.

Trump tweeted earlier in the day that people should “READ THE TRANSCRIPT!” He also called the impeachment inquiry a “Witch Hunt.”

Wallace emphasized the “dramatic” nature of the impeachment vote, saying that he had “goosebumps.”

“You can have a difference of opinion of what that is. But this is the Constitution and the constitutional processes in action, and it’s a dramatic moment,” he said.

Democrats opened up impeachment proceedings last month, and the last vote marks the start of the public phase of impeachment.
