A Jarrettsville family was struck by tragedy on Memorial Day after its youngest member was killed in what police are calling a “freak accident.”
Eighteen-month-old Amoss Luke Weiskopf, who lived in the 2100 block of Mount Horeb Road with his family, was pronounced dead at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air after his father, Arlo Weiskopf, accidentally struck Amoss with his Mitsubishi Montero sport utility vehicle late Monday afternoon.
“He was a great little guy,” said Carty Ingram, the child?s grandfather. “He always had a smile on his face.”
Ingram said the family was taking the loss hard.
The boy?s mother and older brother were working in a garden area near the end of the driveway, said Bob Thomas, a spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff?s Office. “At some point, the mother and older brother went back into the house. The father thought the 18-month-old went with the mother, and he got into his vehicle and began to pull it up into the driveway,” Thomas said.
“He only got a few feet. After hearing and feeling a thud, he got out and found his son bleeding profusely.”
Thomas said Weiskopf carried his son into his home, and he and his wife tried to revive Amoss. After unsuccessful attempts, they got into a vehicle and began heading for the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Co. On the road, they called 911, and police and paramedics responded.
