Bluefield St. gets federal grant for improvements

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) — Bluefield State College is getting a five-year federal grant for technology upgrades and other improvements.

In the grant’s first year, the college will receive more than $1.2 million.

The grant will provide computers, networking, distance learning technology, support services and training opportunities to improve computer literacy institution-wide.

Improvements also will be made in areas such as electronic classrooms, professional development, student leadership development, institutional research, academic outreach, tutoring, and library resources.

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall announced the grant from the U.S. Department on Education on Wednesday.
