SAN DIEGO (AP) — Here’s a list of the 18 members who will serve on Gov. Jerry Brown’s newly created Governor’s Military Council. The council is tasked with promoting California’s defense industry and military bases in a major effort to protect and even expand such jobs amid federal cutbacks.
— Ellen O. Tauscher has been appointed to chair the council. Until February 2012, Tauscher served as undersecretary of state for arms control and international security affairs, and later as special envoy for strategic stability and missile defense at the State Department. Before that, Tauscher represented California’s 10th Congressional District for more than 12 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she chaired the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces. Before entering politics, Tauscher was one of the first women to hold a seat on the New York Stock Exchange.
