Top congressional Democrats, including the No. 2 official at the Democratic National Committee and ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, will introduce legislation Wednesday to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2024, up from its current level of $7.25.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus made the announcement Monday afternoon. Among those introducing the legislation will be Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the deputy chairman of the DNC, Sen. Patty Murray, of Washington, the top Democrat on the Senate HELP Committee, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Reps. Raul Grijalva of Arizona, Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, and Bobby Scott of Virginia.
