Sen. Mitt Romney claimed he gets along “just fine” with President Trump, despite a history of feuds between the two.
In an interview with USA Today, Romney was asked to describe his relationship with the president.
Romney responded, “We get along just fine on a personal basis.”
The two Republicans have clashed several times since Trump announced his presidential bid in 2015. Prior to Election Day, Romney called Trump a “phony.”
“Let me put in very plainly, if we Republicans choose Donald Trump as our nominee, the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished,” Romney said, adding, “There is plenty of evidence that Mr. Trump is a con man, a fake.”
Trump hasn’t had many kind words for Romney, either, recently calling him a “pompous ass.”
Mitt Romney never knew how to win. He is a pompous “ass” who has been fighting me from the beginning, except when he begged me for my endorsement for his Senate run (I gave it to him), and when he begged me to be Secretary of State (I didn’t give it to him). He is so bad for R’s!

Romney claimed it doesn’t matter to him what people think about his routine spats with Trump.
“It’s not that I don’t care about people’s opinions but, at this stage of my life, I care about what I think is right,” the senator said. “And I believe they want me to do what I believe is right.”
He also claimed his constituents want him to be tougher on the president.
“There are some constituents, probably about half, that feel that I should be tougher on the president, and there are about half who think I’m not being tough enough,” he said.
