Spicer on cameras in briefing: ‘Some days we’ll have them, some days we won’t’

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Monday during an off-camera gaggle with reporters that cameras will be allowed some days in the briefings though not every day.

“Some days we’ll have them and some days we won’t,” Spicer said. “The president’s going to speak today in the Rose Garden. I want the president’s voice to carry the day.”

He added: “Look, this is nothing inconsistent from what we’ve said since day one.”

Spicer made the comments after CNN’s White House reporter Jim Acosta, who has sparred with Spicer and is not often called on in the briefings, repeatedly shouted questions at the press secretary. Spicer declined to answer Acosta, but responded to another reporter’s question.

“Why are the cameras off? Why are they off, Sean?” Acosta said. “It’s a legitimate question. You are a taxpayer-funded spokesman for the United States government. Can you at least give us an explanation for why the cameras are off?”
