Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin donated his first-quarter salary to a law enforcement assistance nonprofit group on Wednesday, fulfilling a pledge he made in his 2021 gubernatorial campaign.
The $43,750 was donated to the Virginia Law Enforcement Assistance Program, which helps police officers and first responders “who have undergone traumatic critical incidents,” according to a news release from Youngkin’s office. This was Youngkin’s first time donating to the organization, and he intends to donate to it again in the future, his office told the Washington Examiner.

“I pledged to serve our Commonwealth without accepting a salary because I want to continue giving back to the Commonwealth and helping Virginians in every way I can,” Youngkin said.
“I have chosen to donate my salary to the Virginia Law Enforcement Assistance Program (VALEAP) because of their important mission to assist law enforcement personnel and first responders who have undergone traumatic critical incidents. This reaffirms my ongoing commitment to support our men and women in law enforcement with mental health resources, training, and equipment to ensure that we are serving those that protect our communities across the Commonwealth,” he said.
VALEAP was established in 2008 and has served “more than 500 officers from over 60 Virginia agencies and trained over 150 law enforcement peers to date,” the organization’s website reads.

Youngkin, a Republican, beat former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, in the 2021 election.
VALEAP has not yet responded to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
