Border officials discover 6,500 pounds of pot packed in strawberry jam shipment

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were caught in a sticky situation Tuesday after discovering 6,500 pounds of marijuana packed into large containers filled with strawberry jam, according to a press release issued Wednesday.

While processing northbound vehicles at the Mariposa Commercial Facility in the small border town of Nogales, Ariz., a K9 unit found $3.25 million worth of pot concealed inside a shipment of fruit jellies in the back of a tractor-trailer.

The 51-year-old Mexican male driver was arrested. The drugs were confiscated by border agents and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
