More unfolding in Gray for Mayor investigation

There’s nothing like a good ol’ wire tapping investigation to really make a D.C. politician’s blood run cold.

According to news reports, the investigation into Mayor Vincent Gray’s mayoral campaign continues to zero in on consultant Howard Brooks and his son Payton. Among the latest news, Channel 9 reporter Bruce Johnson has tweeted that Howard Brooks reportedly wore a wire in cooperating with the federal grand jury probe. Payton Brooks has been granted immunity in the investigation.

Brooks’ attorney could not be reached for comment late Monday.

Observers note that the immunity granted Brooks indicates criminal charges will be filed in the investigation, which was started after former mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown accused the Gray campaign of paying him to stay in the 2010 race to continue his attacks on then-Mayor Adrian Fenty.

But so far, nothing has pointed to the mayor. Gray has said he has not been asked to give his fingerprints to investigators although others have.
