WARREN, Mich. (AP) — Officials say the draining of a body of water at a General Motors Co. facility in suburban Detroit turned a local stream a blue-green hue.
The Detroit News reports (http://bitly.com/RDPzNE ) Warren resident George Gemmer noticed Friday that the geese, ducks and heron had disappeared from the area and the stream was discolored. Police and fire officials investigated, and traced the discolored water to the company’s Tech Center.

Warren officials say the water from a lake containing disinfectants was drained following permission from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
Mayor Jim Fouts said he was told that the disinfectant isn’t toxic. By Sunday afternoon, the newspaper reports birds had returned to the area near Red Run Drain.
