Budweiser’s new Super Bowl commercial evokes resilience, determination, and ‘the home of the brave’ in one powerful minute of no dialogue.
Last year was the first time in 37 years Budweiser didn’t have a Super Bowl commercial, but this year, the beloved beer brand is back in the saddle. Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao directed the powerful ad, titled “A Clydesdale’s Journey,” which features a Clydesdale horse that gets injured while jumping over a barbed wire fence.

It appears the horse may not recover from its injuries as the horse’s owner and his dog mourn for the horse. At the end of the ad, the horse is seen walking out of the barn where it was previously lying in pain.
“In the home of the brave, down never means out,” text on the screen reads as the horse is shown running powerfully again, back in full health.
A brief teaser trailer for the ad was released last month, alerting fans to Budweiser’s return to the Super Bowl. The clip showed the horse galloping along with the caption “we’re back.”
“As we look to this year’s Super Bowl, we are excited to illustrate how Anheuser-Busch is accelerating its transformation and further adapting to today’s consumers,” said Benoit Garbe, chief marketing officer of Budweiser parent company Anheuser-Busch, in a statement.

“Now more than ever we believe viewers want to hear about hope, positivity, and possibility, and we’re going to deliver on those themes,” the statement continued.
