100-pound fish flies out of water and stabs woman on boat in groin

An elderly woman was stabbed in the groin Tuesday after a 100-pound sailfish flew out of the waters off the Florida coast.

The woman, a 70-year-old resident of Maryland, was out on the water with friends, who were attempting to reel the monster fish into their boat, when the incident occurred, according to a report.

She was wounded in the groin area by the sailfish’s pointed bill, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Miles from the shore, her companions addressed the wound with pressure, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred too quickly for her to react, she told authorities.

Sailfish are considered to be one of the fastest fish in the sea and have pointed bills similar to the swordfish.
