Tolls on Dulles Greenway to rise Jan. 1

The tolls on the Dulles Greenway will increase Jan. 1, and Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., is upset about it.

Drivers on the Greenway, a privately owned toll road in Loudoun County, will pay as much as $5.55 to travel from Leesburg to Washington, D.C., during peak hours after the rate increase.

Wolf said in a statement that he is worried drivers are unaware of the fare hike, which he said was not advertised widely enough.

“Why should a [Greenway] user have to visit a web site to find out what the toll rate will be?” Wolf said. “This is simply unacceptable.”

Wolf sent a letter Friday to Virginia Secretary of Transportation Sean Connaughton outlining his concerns. Wolf has been fighting the Greenway owners for years over toll increases and other issues.

Tolls on the Dulles Toll Road will also go up Jan. 1, from $2 to $2.25.
