Montgomery County police have identified the victim in a fatal Silver Spring traffic crash as 29-year-old Michael P. Considine.

Considine, of Northwest D.C., was killed when he apparently swerved to avoid hitting a Ride On bus, but then the 2001 Honda Civic he was driving struck a fire hydrant, street sign and curb, according to police.

Police said Considine was approaching a Ride On bus that had stopped to pick up a passenger on the 8600 block of 16th Street. He went off the road and hit several objects, including the hydrant and sign, before overturning and stopping in an embankment on the side of the road, police said.

He didn’t strike the bus.

Considine was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The accident happened at about 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said officers are still investigating the crash and any witnesses are asked to call the collision reconstruction unit at 301-840-2435.
