Another reaction to the Romney speech this morning. Katon Dawson, the charismatic chairman of the South Carolina Republican party, welcomed Romney’s thoughts on religion and urged others to continue talking about their faith:
The Republican Party has a proud tradition of being inclusive, and our candidates have never shied away from talking about their faith. Each Republican candidate for president, including Governor Romney, has candidly and passionately discussed the role faith plays in their lives, and it is critically important they continue to keep faith as an important part of the public discourse during this election.
As noted, Christian conservatives will play a big role in both Iowa and South Carolina. It’s interesting, if not terribly surprising, that the South Carolina GOP chairman would encouarge more talk about faith in the six weeks before his state’s January 19 primary.
