The northern portion of Baltimore’s light-rail service is scheduled to be restored to near full operation today after two weeks of closures, Maryland transportation officials said.
Service is to be restored to Hunt Valley after slippery conditions damaged the wheels of many trains, bringing the system to a halt last weekend, officials said. Engineers worked overtime during the week to modify train controls to allow sudden stops without damaging the wheels.
Some trains will operate with single cars, potentially creating crowded conditions, officials warned. Penn Station-Camden Station shuttle trains will remain out of service and buses will provide service between Penn Station and the Mount Royal/University of Baltimore stop.
