A city made a public apology Tuesday night on Facebook over the lighting of its bridge, which is incapable of displaying blue-and-yellow lights despite its desire to support Ukraine.
Moline, Illinois, shares an interstate bridge with the city of Bettendorf, Iowa, known as the Interstate 74 bridge. The bridge can apparently only display one color at a time despite requests from residents to light it with the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
Moline addressed the requests in a Facebook post, writing that “there are limited capabilities for illuminating the bridge” until the lighting system is updated in late spring or early summer.
“The colors blue and yellow cannot be displayed simultaneously at this time,” the post reads. “The City of Bettendorf is working with the lighting vendor to find a solution that will allow the colors blue and yellow to illuminate simultaneously on the bridge. To show support for Ukraine, last night the bridge lights were blue and tonight, Tuesday, March 1, 2022, the bridge lights will be yellow.”
VIRAL TWEET CAUTIONS AGAINST ‘GLORIFYING THE TRAUMA OF THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE’
