NRA employee accidentally shoots himself at company’s gun range

A National Rifle Association employee mistakenly shot himself in the foot at the organization’s shooting range in Reston, Va., on Friday afternoon.

Fairfax County Police reported an unnamed 46-year-old man who had been training at the National Firearm Museum’s shooting range accidentally fired his gun as he placed it into his holster.

The man suffered a “minor wound to the lower body and was taken to the hospital for treatment,” according to a police account of the incident. After discussing the shooting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, police do not expect the man to be charged.

Approximately 19,000 gun owners accidentally shoot themselves every year, according to Pew Research Center.
