Embattled N.C. gov. to join Trump, Pence at rally

Donald Trump and Mike Pence will hit the campaign trail in North Carolina on Monday, where the state’s Republican governor and senior U.S. senator will help them court undecided voters.

On the same day Hillary Clinton is slated to address the Veterans of Foreign Wars national convention in Charlotte, N.C., her Republican opponent will deliver remarks nearby at a rally in Winston-Salem.

Trump, who won North Carolina’s GOP primary with 40 percent support, is expected to appear with Gov. Pat McCrory and Sen. Richard Burr. McCrory, who faces a tough re-election bid against Democratic challenger and North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper, has been at the center of a nationwide controversy since April regarding his state’s contentious transgender “bathroom bill.”

Burr, who once said he would rather vote for Bernie Sanders than Ted Cruz, endorsed Trump in early May, saying he looked forward to “working with [him] at the top of the ticket and to maintaining the GOP Senate.”

Following his two-day swing through the Tar Heel State, where recent polls shows him trailing Clinton, Trump will head to Scranton, Pa., for a campaign rally two hours away from the site of the Democratic National Convention.
