Two girls, ages 12 and 13, were hit by a van Friday night outside Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg.
The girls were taken to Children’s Hospital with serious injuries but are expected to survive, Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said.
Police said the driver of the van had a green light at the intersection of Frederick Avenue and Lakeforest Boulevard, right outside the Lakeforest Mall, around 6:56 p.m. The two girls were crossing the street in the dark with a “do not cross” signal instructing them to stay on the sidewalk.
The driver of the van remained at the scene, and there were multiple witnesses to the accident, Starks said. A third girl was found nearby after the accident, but she was uninjured.
