Fox News journalist Benjamin Hall injured while reporting outside Kyiv

A reporter from Fox News was injured while covering Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Fox News foreign correspondent Benjamin Hall was hospitalized after getting hurt while newsgathering outside of Kyiv on Monday, according to an internal memo.

“The safety of our entire team of journalists in Ukraine and the surrounding regions is our top priority and of the utmost importance,” said Suzanne Scott, the CEO of Fox News, in the message. “This is a stark reminder for all journalists who are putting their lives on the line every day to deliver news from a war zone.”

The memo also said Fox News’s team in Ukraine is working to gather additional information.

Shaun Tandon, president of the State Department Correspondents’ Association, said: “We are horrified to learn that our fellow correspondent Benjamin Hall was injured as he covered the Ukraine war. We know Ben for his warmth, good humor, and utmost professionalism. We wish Ben a quick recovery and call for utmost efforts to protect journalists who are providing an invaluable service through their coverage in Ukraine.”

Speaking at the White House press briefing, press secretary Jen Psaki said: “Our thoughts, the president’s thoughts, our administration’s thoughts are with him, his family, and all of you at Fox News.”

This is at least the third reporter harmed in Ukraine while working in the past 72 hours. A reporter was killed and another wounded on Saturday after Russian troops opened fire.

Reporters operating within Ukraine have been targeted by several attacks. American journalist Brent Renaud was shot and killed on Saturday after Russian forces opened fire on a vehicle full of foreign reporters, while his companion, photojournalist Juan Arredondo, was injured while attempting to remove Renaud from the warzone in Irpin.

A team from the British broadcaster Sky News said they were shot at by Russian troops on Feb. 28, with two reporters receiving injuries, while three others escaped unscathed.

Russian troops reportedly fired at a freelance Swiss reporter named Guillaume Briquet on March 6, then robbed and threatened to kill him.
