Former Republican Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole thinks Donald Trump’s criticism of Hillary Clinton has been “scattered” and needs to be fine-tuned if he wants to “catch up” to the Democratic presidential front-runner in the general election.

“He has criticism of Hillary, but it’s sort of been scattered,” the 1996 Republican presidential nominee told the New York Times.

After watching Clinton’s speech Thursday, during which she described Trump as “erratic” and “temperamentally unfit” to be president, Dole said Trump “has got to catch up” if he wants to make it to the Oval Office come November.

“I think Hillary tried laying a groundwork, and I think that’s going to be sort of her template,” he said of the former secretary of state’s foreign policy-centric attacks.

Dole, who lost the 1996 general election to Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, endorsed Trump last Month shortly after the billionaire became the last man standing in the GOP race.

“The voters of our country have turned out in record numbers to support Mr. Trump,” Dole said in a statement released by Trump’s campaign. “It is important that their votes be honored and it is time that we support the party’s presumptive nominee.”
