Twitter applied a fact-check on Chinese politician Lijian Zhao after he alluded that the coronavirus originated in the United States.

“This article is very much important to each and every one of us,” Zhao said. “Please read and retweet it. COVID-19: Further evidence that the virus originated in the U.S.”

Zhao linked his tweet to a site calling itself a pillar of global research. The coronavirus, in reality, originated in Wuhan, China.

Twitter fact-checks came under fire after an alert was placed on President Trump’s recent tweet linking absentee voting to voter fraud.

In response, Trump issued an executive order allowing possible federal regulators to punish tech giants if they overreach their monitoring of third-party content.
