They just keep coming and coming to H Street.
Next week Steuart Investment Co. officials will break ground on a development that will feature Giant Food and a 215-unit apartment building on the up-and-coming corridor.
Dubbed “360° H Street” the groundbreaking for the new development is scheduled for July 19 at 10:30 a.m. on H Street Northeast between 3rd and 4th streets.
Meanwhile, D.C. Councilman Tommy Wells announced on Wednesday that he succeeded in his request to postpone the tax sale of several buildings on H Street that house small businesses. Property owners during the construction of the H Street streetcar tracks were so badly hurt by the toll the construction took on foot traffic that many struggled to make their tax payments.
However, unlike other business owners during massive construction and streetscaping periods, H Street business owners didn’t get tax discounts for their trouble. A Streetscape Relief Fund has been created “to offer assistance to help these businesses.”
Properties on the tax sale deemed vacant, blighted, or vacant lots were not postponed.
