Top U.S. law enforcement officials were pressed about their political leanings by Democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, as the Justice Department and FBI come under fire from President Trump and House Republicans for being biased.
“Are you a Democrat?” Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., asked FBI Director Christopher Wray, who was nominated by Trump in 2017.
“No, I am not,” Wray, a registered Republican, responded.
Gutierrez then asked Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, another Trump appointee, the same question.
“I’m not a Democrat and I’m not angry,” Rosenstein replied.

Trump has repeatedly lashed out on Twitter at “13 Angry Democrats” he has accused of spearheading the “witch hunt” Russia investigation.
The president’s reference to the unhappy Democrats is believed to be related to a report that 13 of Mueller’s 17 prosecutors are Democrats.
Mueller’s federal probe, which Rosenstein oversees, is looking into whether Russia meddled in the 2016 election and if there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Mueller is also investigating whether Trump attempted to obstruct the inquiry.
