News Summary: Stock market cuts its losses

LATE RECOVERY: Stocks recovered from a midday slide to end with only slight losses. The Dow Jones industrial average ended down 25 points, after being down as much as 177 earlier.

BANKS BOUNCE: JPMorgan cut its loss in half late in the day, and others followed. The stock was down as much as $1.93 but ended with a loss of 90 cents at $35.88. It was still the biggest loss among the 30 stocks in the Dow average.

HEALTH CARE: Investors delivered a mixed verdict on the Supreme Court’s decision to mostly uphold President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law. Hospital operators like HCA Holdings soared, but many insurance stocks fell as investors worried about the costs of rules included in the legislation.
