SEVERNA PARK, Md. (AP) — Maryland Natural Resources Police say they will have a dozen officers in the area of the annual Bumper Bash on the Magothy River.

The organizers of the popular and rowdy gathering have said they are not hosting the event this year, but large numbers of boaters are still expected Saturday on the Magothy. Natural Resources Police say the Coast Guard has also established a safety zone on the river’s Sillery Bay, where the event is traditionally held. Boaters are subject to speed limitations and other restrictions in the zone.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say more than 1,000 boats have taken part in the event the past two years leading them to seek legislation to regulate large boat gatherings.
