Hillary Clinton on Monday said everybody should rise up and attack Donald Trump like cancer.
Going into Tuesday’s New York primaries in which she’s facing Sen. Bernie Sanders, Clinton has been running ads attacks against the billionaire mogul.
“People say, ‘Well, hey wait, you don’t have the nomination yet, why are you doing that?'” she observed, commenting on the ads during an interview on the syndicated radio show “The Breakfast Club.” “And I say, ‘Look, we can’t let that stand!’ That is like cancer. You don’t let the cancer grow bigger and bigger and bigger, and we wake up and say, ‘What the heck has happened to our country?’ Everybody needs to be going after him.”
She added, “I hope that people are going to speak out loudly and clearly and not tune it out. We have to repudiate the guy and what he is saying, and everybody has to be on the same page.”
The former secretary of state lamented the rise of Trump in the Republican Party, claiming that at first the party “didn’t take him too seriously” and that perhaps the business mogul didn’t take the race too seriously himself. But now that Trump has amassed so much support Clinton, surmised he would continue to fight for the nomination no matter what.
When asked about her former friendship with the business mogul, the Democratic front-runner claimed that she was a not close friend of Trump, although she did attend his wedding, and that she’s been very surprised with his conduct in the campaign.
“This has been a surprise, its been a surprise to a lot of people who knew him,” Clinton said of Trump. “He’s always been a guy who thinks highly of himself, big ego, grandiose vision. Because you know a lot of guys who do development and building buildings, they think like that. But this prejudice, this paranoia, this bigotry that I hadn’t seen before.”
Clinton also touched on some lighter topics in the interview, such as her belief that eating lots of hot peppers aids the immune system and her belief that the U.S. government should investigate reports of UFOs even though she doesn’t know if she believes in aliens.
“I have said I want to open the files as much as I can,” she said of UFO reports. “They’re enough stories out there that I don’t think everyone are sitting in their kitchens making it up. I think people see things, what they see I don’t know.”
