Verizon settles massive strike

Verizon and nearly 40,000 of its workers have entered into a tentative deal to end one of the largest strikes in the United States in years.

Verizon will provide 1,300 new call center jobs and grant nearly 11 percent in raises over four years, but also make changes in workers’ healthcare plans to save the company money, according to the Associated Press.

The deal must still be voted by union members after they return to work Wednesday. The workers are represented by the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
