A discarded cigarette butt is believed to have caused a fire that displaced 29 people.
The cigarette tossed on a second-floor balcony sparked the Thursday afternoon fire in Frederick, the Frederick News Post reported.
Fire investigators told the newspaper that the blaze displaced 29 people in 12 apartment units. The fire broke out at about 3:40 p.m. Thursday.
The fire caused an estimated $600,000 in damage.
