Police charge man with murder
Dewayne Dunmore, 37, of Charles County was shot and killed while sitting in his Mercedes around 2 a.m. Friday, Prince George’s County police said. Officers involved in a nearby investigation heard the shots and responded to the scene to find Benjamin Perry, 36, of an undisclosed location, allegedly firing into the Mercedes, police said. Perry took off in a Dodge minvian and he crashed on D’Arcy Road as the officers pursued him. He was injured and hospitalized. Perry has been charged with first-degree murder, police said. -Freeman Klopott
Teen held without bail
The 17-year-old charged in the shooting of five people in Southeast Washington was ordered held without bail until a hearing Monday.
Deidrick Johnson, of the 1200 block of Stevens Road, was charged with five counts of assault with intent to kill in connection with a Jan. 11 shooting in Washington View. All five of the victims were treated at a hospital and released. Authorities also added drug and weapons charges after they found 58 small bags of crack cocaine and a .40-caliber gun in Johnson’s bedroom.
Police said the Washington View shooting may be connected to Tuesday’s gun attack in which four students were shot outside Ballou High School.
Tree trimmers find body
A Maryland Park Commission tree-trimming crew working on the 7300 block of East Forest Road discovered extremely decayed human remains in the woods around 9:30 a.m. Friday, Prince George’s County police said. A medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death . – Freeman Klopott
Pedestrian struck and killed
William Estvardo Chacono-Varga, 19, of Silver Spring, was killed around 7:30 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a 1999 Volkswagen Passat as he was attempting to cross southbound New Hampshire Avenue at Northampton Drive, Montgomery County police said. The Passat was driven by Sean O’Neil, 50, of Takoma Park and he remained on the scene. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision should call 301-840-2435. -Freeman Klopott
