Judicial Watch is suing the Department of Homeland Security for records related to the suspension of reports naming sanctuary cities that don’t comply with Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s detainer policy.
“Sanctuary cities are violating federal law and putting public at risk. It’s that simple,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said regarding the Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
“Citizens and immigrants alike deserve to know why this useful report exposing sanctuary city lawlessness was discontinued.”
President Trump’s executive order on immigration mandated “Declined Detainer Outcome Reports,” which were to be issued weekly and detailed state and local governments that chose not to comply the ICE’s detailer policy.
The Trump administration suspended publication of these reports just three weeks after the first one was issued because of “complaints.”
An ICE spokesman said in April the reports were halted so ICE could “analyze and refine its reporting methodologies.”
Judicial Watch is suing the Department of Homeland Security in response to an April 13 FOIA request for all complaints ICE received related to the Declined Detainer Outcome Reports, all records concerning the suspension of their publication and all records outlining the reporting methodologies used to create the reports.
