WESTFIELD, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York village is getting a financial boost from the federal government.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker says the Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding $2.1 million to the Village of Westfield, Chautauqua County.

The money will be used to upgrade critical infrastructure to allow local businesses to expand and attract new business to the region.

It’s estimated the EDA’s investment will let three grape processing companies retain 146 jobs and invest an additional $400,000 in plant expansion improvements.

The vllage’s waste water treatment plant also will be upgraded to help existing companies and create capacity to attract new ones to the area.

Pritzker calls the federal grant “crucial for both economic growth and job creation.”
