Direct gas tax refund payments worth hundreds can be claimed this month in Missouri

Missouri drivers feeling pain at the pump still have time to claim a gas tax refund to help ease expenses.

Consumers who fueled up at gas pumps anytime between Oct. 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022, can now submit a claim for their purchases at the pump. The refunds will be processed by the Missouri Department of Revenue in the order they are received, and the department will be required to pay interest to filers if they are refunded after 45 days of filing, according to the department.

“You can get anywhere from 14 bucks to a couple hundred back, and that could go toward more fuel, maybe put some food on the table,” driver Chuck Vogelsang told KSDK.

The department recommends filing using the MyTax Portal and including all the required information of the filer’s vehicle, such as the vehicle’s VIN, make, model, and year. In addition, filers will need to take the number of gallons shown on the payer’s receipt, the dates of purchases, and the seller’s full address and multiply this amount by 0.025.

The offer is not just limited to Missouri residents, as anyone who has purchased gas from a Missouri pump “once a week” can file for this refund, No Mo Gas Tax App founder Tammi Hilton told the outlet.

The deadline to file is Sept. 30.

The United States has seen a marked decrease in gas prices since last month, a turnaround from months of skyrocketing increases, data from the American Automobile Association showed. State Department adviser Amos Hochstein stated Sunday he believes the price of gas is expected to lower to roughly $4 a gallon.

The Missouri Department of Revenue has not responded to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
