Billionaire climate activist Tom Steyer is taking aim at the “dangerous policies” of presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump with the launch of a new advocacy PAC.
“With the general election rapidly approaching, progressives across the country are coming together in support of bold climate action — and against the dangerous policies of Donald Trump’s Republican Party,” said Steyer’s group NextGen Climate Friday.
“With so much at stake this election, it is critical that we empower those who are most impacted by decisions on the critical issues facing our families and this new partnership will make sure that their voices are heard,” Steyer said.
To counter Trump, NextGen and its partners in the labor movement announced the creation of For Our Future PAC, which it describes as a “joint effort to mobilize working families on key issues in battleground states.”
“For Our Future will focus on addressing climate change, creating shared economic prosperity, building strong public schools and supporting racial justice,” the group said Friday.
The moves comes the same day Trump reportedly appointed climate skeptic Rep. Kevin Cramer, a Republican from North Dakota, to be his chief energy adviser. Cramer blasted the Environmental Protection Agency Thursday for issuing new rules on the oil and gas sector. His state is a leader in the production of crude oil from shale rock using hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
