New Freedom Convoy crowdfunding campaign nets $2 million in one day

Christian crowdfunding site GiveSendGo opened a campaign Friday for the Freedom Convoy truckers demonstrating in Ottawa, Canada, raising more than $2 million by Saturday night.

The new campaign opened after GoFundMe canceled the truckers’ first fundraiser, which had raised around $10 million.

By 9 a.m. Sunday morning, the GiveSendGo campaign had netted $2.4 million of the new $16 million goal.

“We’ve decided to team up with an organization called GiveSendGo, which is going to enable us to get donations into the hands of truckers much much quicker,” said Tamara Lich, an organizer with Freedom Convoy 2022.

GoFundMe announced Saturday that it would refund all the money donated to the Freedom Convoy of truckers. Donors’ contributions would be returned automatically.

GOFUNDME TO REIMBURSE FREEDOM CONVOY DONORS

The GiveSendGo campaign page states that donations will be used to help truckers with costs of fuel, food, and lodging.

“We plan on being here for the long haul — as long as it takes to ensure that your rights and freedoms are restored,” Lich said. “From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you very much.”

The inundation of donations on GiveSendGo is reportedly causing some server difficulties for the crowdfunding site.

Rumble tweeted Saturday that it is willing to offer support, to which GiveSendGo replied that it had sent a direct message.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, along with state attorneys general from West Virginia and Louisiana, promised Saturday to investigate GoFundMe’s removal of the Freedom Convoy’s page.

The thousands of truckers are heading into their tenth day in Canada’s capital protesting against COVID mandates.
