Trump says Tiger Woods is too ‘smart’ to say bad things about him

President Trump lauded Tiger Woods for not speaking negatively about him during a news conference after the final round of the Northern Trust tournament Sunday.

“He’s the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office,” Woods responded to a reporter who asked about his relationship with Trump.

Trump reacted to Woods’ comments Monday: “The Fake News Media worked hard to get Tiger Woods to say something that he didn’t want to say. Tiger wouldn’t play the game – he is very smart. More importantly, he is playing great golf again!”

Trump and Woods have known each other for years and have played golf together. Woods noted he has also played golf with former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.

During the news conference, Woods declined to comment on the state of race relations in the U.S.

“No. I just finished 72 holes and [am] really hungry,” he said.
