Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump in the battleground state of Virginia has grown since the debate, according to a new poll.
Clinton is backed by 42 percent of likely voters, which is a 1-point gain since the last poll ahead of last week’s first presidential debate. Trump has 35 percent support in the new Mason Center at Christopher Newport University poll.

Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson is backed by 12 percent of likely Virginia voters and Green Party nominee Jill Stein is supported by 1 percent.
Clinton’s boost comes from young voters ages 18-34, from 34 percent in late September to 42 percent now. Trump and Johnson have the same amount of support from that voter bloc at 24 percent.
The Democratic nominee also leads among independent voters, 34-28 percent, as well as black voters, 74-7 percent. She also has a small advantage among college-educated votes, 39-37 percent.
Trump’s support comes from white voters (44-32) and voters without a college degree (55-24).
The poll of 892 likely Virginia voters was conducted Sept. 27-30, and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
According to a RealClearPolitics average of polls, Clinton has a 7-point lead over her Republican rival, 44-37 percent.
