A D.C. police officer and a school resource officer were maced by a student at Ballou High School on Thursday.

Around 10 a.m., a school police officer noticed a juvenile at the school who was wanted as a fugitive from justice out of Virginia, said D.C. police officer Istmania Bonilla. As the officer tried to apprehend the teenager, the student pulled out his own can of mace and sprayed the officer and a school resource officer, police said. The student was taken into custody and the officers were not seriously injured, police said.

Bonilla did not know what the student was wanted for in Virginia.
