GOP group launches $2.6 million ad blitz promoting Obamacare repeal

The political organization aligned with Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday unveiled a $2.6 million advertising campaign to build support for Republican plans to repeal and replace Obamacare.

American Action Network is targeting 41 Republican-held House districts with television, print, digital and direct mail advertising to boost efforts to overhaul the healthcare system. This investment is part of ongoing and aggressive action by AAN to provide political cover for House Republicans as they move ahead with repealing the Affordable Care Act, signed into law seven years ago by former President Barack Obama.

There is political support for replacing Obamacare, but the effort is complicated and fraught with risks.

“Americans should know that Congress has a plan for patient-centered health care and their Member of Congress is a key voice in this fight,” AAN executive director Corry Bliss said in a statement. “We urge constituents across the country to tell Congress they support the plan that provides access to quality, affordable health care of their choice.”

House and Senate Republicans are meeting in Philadelphia this week for their policy retreat, where plans for repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act are expected to be further hashed out. President Trump is addressing members on Thursday, and could reveal clues as to what shape he wants the GOP legislation to take.

Here’s the script to AAN’s latest television spot:

Remember the promises of the Affordable care Act? Well, they were broken.

You can’t keep your healthcare plan or your doctor.

And, with skyrocketing premiums, trillions in new taxes and decreased access to quality coverage, American families and businesses have few good choices.

They know it’s time for a change. So does [name of local member of Congress]

Thank her for fighting for a quality, affordable healthcare plan.

Urge her to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act now.
