Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has been released from the hospital and returned home after having shoulder surgery, the court said Wednesday afternoon.
Sotomayor, 63, underwent “reverse total shoulder replacement” surgery Tuesday after fracturing her left shoulder in a fall at her home last month.
The justice is expected to limit her activities for the coming weeks while she recovers. She will be in a sling and undergo physical therapy.
The justice was on the bench for oral arguments immediately after the fall on April 16, and a doctor confirmed later that afternoon her shoulder was broken.
Sotomayor and her fellow justices met for a public nonargument session Monday morning and will gather next for a private conference to discuss cases May 10.
