A Metrobus driver was struck and killed early Thursday morning by a tractor-trailer as he tended to his disabled bus along Interstate 395 in Arlington County.
Keith Dodson, 37, of Washington, was transported to George Washington University Hospital, where he died shortly after the incident, Arlington County police officials said.
Three agencies are investigating the incident, which occurred on the southbound I-395 access road near Shirlington at 5:48 a.m. Dobson was on his way to collect his first passengers on bus 2677 when he called in a disabled vehicle report and turned on the bus’s flashing lights.
A red Nissan car was slowing to avoid the bus when it was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer. The colliding vehicles swerved onto the shoulder and avoided the bus.
However, the truck hit Dobson. Both drivers remained on the scene. No charges are pending while the case remains under investigation, Rounds said.
