The nightly news show will also make the move from New York to Washington, D.C., in the fall.

O’Donnell previously co-hosted “CBS This Morning” with Gayle King and John Dickerson. King will continue to host the morning show, and will be joined by Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil.

Dickerson is moving to a reporting role for “60 Minutes” and will help with election coverage.

“Norah is one of the leading journalists of our time,” CBS News president Susan Zirinsky said. “Her outstanding reporting, incisive interviews and dedication to the truth will distinguish the ‘CBS Evening News’ every night.”

“This is a start of a new era for CBS News,” she said.

The shakeup comes months after Zirinsky was named president in January. She officially took over the role in March.
