SAN DIEGO (AP) — A judge has sentenced a former San Diego police officer to one year in the county jail for groping women during pat-down searches.

During a hearing Friday in San Diego Superior Court, Judge Charles Rogers also placed Christopher Hays on probation for three years.

The 30-year-old former officer pleaded guilty last month to felony and misdemeanor charges tied to groping three women in separate incidents.

Hays will be placed in custody Oct. 3.

His sentencing comes a day after the city agreed to pay nearly $6 million to settle a federal lawsuit from a woman who was groped by a different former officer.

Anthony Arevalos was convicted in 2011 of eliciting sexual favors from women stopped for traffic violations. He is serving an eight-year sentence.
