Larry Kudlow expected to return to White House next week following heart attack

White House officials expect to welcome National Economic Council Chairman Larry Kudlow back to work next week, following his leave of absence this month to recover from a mild heart attack.

“He’s in good spirits and excited to be returning,” a senior White House official told the Washington Examiner, adding that Kudlow has remained involved in the administration’s daily affairs during his recovery.

While en route to his meeting last week with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, President Trump tweeted that his top economic adviser had suffered a heart attack and was being treated by doctors at Walter Reed National National Military Medical Center. He had just returned from a two-day G-7 summit in Canada.

Kudlow was released from Walter Reed on June 13. Doctors said he was expected to “make a full and speedy recovery” at the time.

A White House official said Thursday that Kudlow, 70, is likely to maintain a light schedule for the time being, as he continues to recover. Friends of the former CNBC contributor are also urging him to quite smoking cigarettes, the Washington Examiner reported earlier this week.

Kudlow’s expected return was first reported by CNN on Thursday.
