SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — An Orange County man who held a bank manager hostage and fired at police during a 2012 standoff has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Fifty-seven-year-old Myung Jae Kim of Irvine was sentenced Friday.
Prosecutors say Kim targeted the manager of Saehan Bank in Buena Park because she once worked for a different bank where $235,000 of his money vanished from a safety deposit box.
Authorities say Kim had a sawed-off shotgun, pipe bombs and a knife when he took the woman hostage for nearly four hours. Police finally stormed the bank and wounded him.
Kim was convicted in April of false imprisonment and other felonies but he was acquitted of attempted murder.
