Two firefighters injured in Prince George’s County house fire

Two firefighters were injured Monday in a house fire in Prince George’s County, officials said.

About 5:30 p.m. Monday, firefighters were called to the 5500 block of Auth Road and found a single-family home with heavy fire showing, according to the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department. Forty firefighters and medics came to the scene and took 25 minutes to extinguish the fire.

The woman in the house had been alerted to the fire by her smoke alarm, and she had left the house without being injured.

One firefighter had minor burns and was taken to the burn unit in good condition, officials said. Another firefighter was taken to a hospital for a smoke inhalation evaluation and is in good condition.

Fire loss is estimated at $100,000, and the fire’s cause and origin are under investigation.
